Mangalore city has been selected on a pilot basis by the state government for a study of sustainable solid waste management informed the MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar.
He was addressing a workshop organised at the Mangala Auditorium of the MCC on September 20, Tuesday on techniques to improve solid waste management and to prepare an action plan in this regard. The event was organised in association with KUIDFC and World Bank.
The Commissioner said the agency which is presently entrusted with the task of door-to-door waste collection in Mangaluru has been given a year’s extension. Once the new DPR gets approval at the Government level fresh tenders will be invited, he said. He said Mangaluru city presently has 300 permanent municipal workers.
MCC Opposition leader Naveen D’Souza who spoke on the occasion said there is a need for further improving the door-to-door waste collection system.
