15 more parks planned to be Built, Towards greener city

Smart City initiatives are transforming the city’s appearance. Simultaneously, the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) intends to build a new park in each of the city’s wards to establish and preserve green spaces across the city. The goal is to build 15 parks in the first phase. The parks are to be built on government-owned property that is now empty. For this reason, a survey has been conducted, and the procedure is expected to be finished within a week.

The city desperately needs a green cover, as construction projects have destroyed huge areas of vegetation, and temperatures are rising due to the prevalence of concrete structures. People are finding a shortage of public space for relaxation and exercise as the city’s population grows. The chairman of the MUDA is particularly interested in building Miyawaki model parks in unoccupied places with less than five centimeters of area, to increase the presence of vegetation. Kadri Park is the city’s sole large park, serving 60 of the city’s 60 wards. Pilikula is known as a tourist destination and academic center rather than a park.

Gandhi Park in front of the town hall, Tagore Park at Light House Hill, a Corporation Bank-sponsored park near Nehru Maidan, Mannagudde Park, Valencia Park, Jeppu Market Park, and a few more minor parks can all be found here. As a result of the city’s space constraints, larger parks are unable to be built. Mini parks, on the other hand, can be built in a variety of locations. In areas like Bijai Vivekananda small park and Karangalpady Arise Awake tiny park, such initiatives are currently underway. Small walking trails can provide a place for residents to relax and exercise. At Urwa Store, a Miyawaki park is being built near the Zilla panchayat office.

A small park has sprouted near Kadri’s City Hospital. MUDA intends to construct one park for every four wards in the first phase. An MLA has proposed 40 parks in the city’s south constituency, some of which are small and others medium-sized. An MLA has suggested parks in the city’s north constituency, as per a health specialist. These ideas are being considered by MUDA’s Chairman for possible implementation. As per the MUDA chairman, 15 parks will be created throughout the city in the first phase.
