In the wake of new variant identification in Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada district is to send more COVID-19 positive samples for genome sequencing. The district has not implemented any new steps expressly for the Omicron variety, as per the deputy commissioner, although current surveillance has been increased. In response to a question about whether the district will take extra measures in the wake of the Omicron variant identification in Bengaluru, the DC responded that surveillance for COVID-19 has been increased in the district and that they are planning to send more positive samples for genomic sequence.
In the previous 15 days, four people from at-risk nations have arrived in Mangaluru, as per the DC. He stated that they had all tested negative for COVID-19. From November 26 to December 2, the district tested 36,840 people, he added, with an average of more than 5,000 tests every week. On Thursday, the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi reported 30 new cases of COVID-19.
The Dakshina Kannada district reported 20 cases of viral infection, with a 0.2 percent test positive rate. There have been 17 discharges, and there are now 141 ongoing COVID-19 cases in the district. Meanwhile, ten people in Udupi have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, and the area has 70 current cases.
