Chrome has vulnerabilities that may be used by cyber attackers to execute arbitrary code on users’ PCs. As per the watchdog, hackers may also gain access to personal data and implant malware on a targeted machine. CERT-In has recommended users upgrade their browsers as soon as possible because Google has already released a remedy for these vulnerabilities in its recent Chrome update.

The stable build of the widely used browser is 96.0.4664.93 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The company also said that an “extended stable channel” will be rolled out for Windows and Mac in the coming weeks. Google said it has provided 22 types of security fixes to plug the loopholes and prevent hackers from taking control of users computers remotely.

To update your Chrome browser, follow these steps:

  • Open the Google Chrome browser
  • On the top right corner, there are three tiny dots. Click on that
  • Bring the cursor down to Help, which will further show an option About Google Chrome
  • When clicked, the browser will show the build and start updating (if there is any update pending)
  • The user will be prompted to restart the Chrome browser. Doing so will launch the updated browser which will offer better protection against online attacks. Users can check the version of the Chrome browser similarly. They will have to click on the three dots and go to Help -> About Google Chrome.
