The National Highways Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed to build a 54-meter bowstring steel girder road overbridge atop the Mangaluru-Mumbai railway line. Between Udupi and Manipal, the RoB offers the missing link for the four-lane Malpe-Tirthahalli NH 169A project. The proposal has been given to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for approval.
An estimated 476 tonnes of galvanized steel would be used to erect the bridge with prefabrication. The RoB was constructed to cover the whole 48-meter width of the Konkan Railway Corporation’s land to permit future railway line construction. In addition to the current RoB, a two-lane steel RoB would be built. On both ends of the bridge, abutment construction to create piles for the bridge had already been finished.
