Mangalore: Due to the Omicron fear, airlines are seeing fewer cancellations and fewer reservations, and airfares are returning to pre-Covid levels. Return flights from Dubai to Mangaluru cost nearly twice as much in December as they did in October. For example, a return flight from Dubai to the coastal city that cost Rs 1 lakh in October is now priced at Rs 50,000 or less.
In October, a layover flight from any Indian airport to Dubai or Sharjah was 150 percent more expensive than a direct flight. Due to the pandemic and travel reservations, the number of planes available has been restricted. As a result of the first ticket guidelines, prices increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 12,000, Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000.
Till mid-January, a one-way ticket from Mangaluru to Dubai was priced between Rs 21,000 and Rs 25,000, and about Rs 30,000 on weekends. In October, the same tickets were priced at almost Rs 50,000. The return airfare from Dubai to Mangaluru has increased by Rs 6,000 from Rs 45,000 in the last three days, as bookings have cautiously picked up.
