Kodagu is the fourth district in Karnataka to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination for the full target population. As per official statistics, 1,834 people have yet to get their first dose. The health department was notified when more than 1,300 duplicate entries were found.
Four other districts are on the verge of completing 100% first-dose coverage. As per data from the Health and Family Welfare Department, Bagalkot has achieved 99%, while Belagavi, Chikkaballapura, and Davanagere have achieved 98%. The district held special vaccination drives twice a week, although the government only required them once a week. Overall, the state has a 96% first-dose coverage rate, with approximately 4.7 crores of the 4.9 crore people eligible to receive the vaccination having received at least one injection. With the first dosage, Bengaluru has reached 91% of its eligible population.
Bengaluru Urban’s target was to inoculate 10.3 lakh people, but more than 13 lakh people took the first dose. Micro planning at the district level, efforts to increase last-mile coverage, and taking vaccines to the doorsteps of people helped achieve this landmark, as per a health expert at the National Health Mission, Karnataka. Districts that are struggling to achieve the 100% mark say the challenge is in covering rural folk.
