Mangaluru/Udupi: Churches brim with faith on Christmas Eve

On Friday, December 24, a large number of faithful people attended Christmas Eve Masses in and around the city. With the COVID pandemic approaching, masses were held to preserve social isolation while following the COVID-19 guidelines. Churches throughout the world were decorated with beautiful lights, stars, and sparkling ornaments to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Carol singing, colorful cribs, and lovely Christmas trees filled the air with joy.

During the pandemic panic, Christmas Eve was observed as per COVID rules. The feast Mass was performed at Milagres Cathedral in Kallianpur by Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo of the Diocese of Udupi. The parishioners displayed a tableau symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ. The rector of Milagres Cathedral, Fr. Valerian Mendonca, was there, as was Fr. Joy Andrade, assistant parish priest, and other priests. Several churches were decorated and the lights were used to light them. Cribs were built by the kids on the grounds of the church.
