The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has finally decided to activate ward committees. Two months following their establishment, the city corporation will host workshops for members of newly formed ward committees.
Workshops for ward committee members will be organized with the participation of corporators from the individual wards. The MCC commissioner will hold workshops for ward committee members shortly. The discussion will focus on issues and the needs of people about development. Due to the election code of conduct, the procedure of activating the ward committees was delayed.
Mangaluru City Corporation invited anyone interested in participating on the award committee in July 2021. In August, a provisional list of candidates nominated to serve on the 60 ward committees was released, and in the first week of November, a final list of eligible ward committee members was released.
All 60 corporators have been asked to submit proposals for various development work in their respective wards. The mayor stated the government will increase the annual sanction to corporators for ward development from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. They are expecting to exceed the target in revenue collection.
