A month ago, the majority of campuses,  including schools, were battling with the highest number of Covid-19 cases. The schools are now operating without any cases being reported.

Dr Prashanth Kumar, BEO, South said no Covid-19 cases have been reported among students or teachers from February 16. “In the third wave of the pandemic, 64 students and six teachers had tested positive. Around four schools that reported more than five cases were shut. Now, the schools are functioning normally without any Covid-19 cases. The children do have common cold and fever, as usual, which was prevalent during pre-pandemic days,” he said.

Dr Ashok H, nodal officer for Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada said campuses have been reporting almost zero cases from the past week. However, there is still a risk since the neighbouring state of Kerala has a high positivity rate. “The positivity rate in DK is 0.39% (As of February 22) with 271 active cases,” he said.

Dilip G Naik, pro-vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education said that the campus is free from Covid-19, except for one or two stray cases. “Though the fear of Covid-19 is gone, we have not let our guard down. The regular triage facility is followed when a dental patient arrives. The interns or doctors and PGs follow all precautionary measures,” said Naik.

Hope this continues rather than an increase in covid cases, which will mess the situations again.
