Mangalore University (MU) has emerged champion at the recently concluded 81st All-India Inter-University Women’s Athletics Championship held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (Bhubaneshwar), Odisha by securing three gold, one silver and three bronze medals and scoring 51 points.
Out of 35 sportspersons who represented MU, 30 are from Alva’s Education Foundation. Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, said that this is the fifth consecutive year that MU has clinched the championship. All the winners are adopted students of Alva’s, he added.
In javelin throw, Karishma Sanil stood first, while K M Lakshmi secured first and third places in half-marathon and 10,000m race, respectively. Rekha won second place in shot-put, while Sruthilakshmi and Shalini Chowdhary stood second in the long jump.
In the 4x100m relay, the team including Navami, Keerthana, Varsha, Medha Rajesh and Dechamma won first place.
