On Tuesday, the 8th of September, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa launched the first integrated air ambulance from the city of Bengaluru. The air ambulance service is going to be jointly provided by the International Critical Air Transfer Team (ICATT) and the Kyathi. The former consists of a team of emergency medical service experts while the latter is an aviation technology firm. Equipped with German Isolation Pods, this fixed wing aircraft has been designed for long distance emergency medical transportation and includes a helicopter and land ambulance services that will serve to provide last mile connectivity. The aircraft was launched while also keeping in mind the need of critical COVID-19 patients who may need state-of-the-art ambulance facilities at any given point in time. This fixed-wing aircraft will be stationed at the HAL airport in Bengaluru
Provision of timely medical care is of utmost importance especially in testing times like the present, said Chief minister B. S. Yediyurappa in his address. He also stressed that this venture has been correctly launched in Bengaluru to cater not only to the capital city but also to lend a helping hand to South India itself. He mentioned that ICAAT-Kyathi aims to not only provide medical assistance at the right time but to also offer best care with the help of senior doctors and paramedics from the field of medicine. Covid- 19 pandemic was the right time to initiate the air ambulance system as citizens are in dire need of care at all times.
Rahul Singh Sardar, Co-founder and Director of ICAAT said that it is integral that one chooses the right ambulance that will help with dealing with critical care. He added that the comprehensive medevac team comprises of doctors, paramedics, perfusionists and intensivists out of which the former two professionals have been certified to handle critical care under the Fellowship in Aero Medicine(FAM).
