The district has made arrangements to administer the second dose to the target group, said DHO Dr Kishore Kumar M as Dakshina Kannada has achieved 86% of the target in administering the first dose of vaccine against Covid-19, in the age group of 12-14 years.
He told the media that a majority of the beneficiaries above 18, have already been covered with the first dose of the vaccine. The second dose has been administered to 94% of the people in the district. In the 15-17 age category, 94% of beneficiaries have taken the first dose, while 83% have taken the second dose, the DHO said. The precautionary dose of the vaccine has been administered to 65% of frontline workers, 49% of health workers and 50% of those above 60 in the district, he added.
“A majority of the healthcare and frontline workers had been infected with Covid-19. Hence, many of them will be receiving the precautionary dose after 90 days. There will be a considerable increase in the number of people availing of the booster dose by the end of May,” he said, also the district has sufficient quantities of vaccine doses
The booster doses are available at the PHCs for senior citizens who are above 60. The booster dose for the above-18 category is available in private hospitals on payment and appealed to people to receive the precautionary dose, to reduce the intensity of the infection.
“The district has no reported cases of the Omicron variant. We have been monitoring the spread of the variants in other parts of the country. Overall, the number of Covid-19 cases has reduced drastically in Dakshina Kannada, We have been conducting an average of 500 tests per day,” he mentioned.
