The Mangalore Dasara celebration organized by Mangalore International Airport got off to a vibrant start at the airport on October 3. Various cultural organizations showcased their talent at this two-day celebration at an open-air stage just set near the arrival gate. Bhajans, dandiya, Yakshagana, and the ubiquitous ‘pili vesha’ added to the unique flavour that the celebration presented to the stakeholders concerned.
Starting the cultural proceedings were the young and enthusiastic members of Sri Rama Kunitha Bhajana Mandali, Ishwarakatte in Bajpe with music pieces that fit the occasion. With more than 10 lakh passengers passing through MIA last year, the airport team continues to bring forth a wide variety of cultural experiences for passengers from all walks of life and thereby add to their myriad airport memories.
Following the melodious bhajans rendered by the troupe with their signature dance moves, students from a professional college in the city presented the dandiya, Bharatanatyam, and Yakshagana dances. This was followed by the famed ‘pili nalike’ aka ‘Tiger dance’. Even as the sun slowly slid over the horizon, the ‘pilis’ took center stage and left all awestruck with their scintillating moves driven by the vibrant beats of the ‘taase’.
Stakeholders at the airport that includes the airline, will strive to take forward this cultural momentum on the second day – that is Ayudha Pooja day on October 4 with pili nalike, Bharatanatyam, semi-classical and filmi dance on Tuesday. So, the next time you are at MIA, keep tuned to scintillating symphonies and musical melodies that surround you as you prepare for your next flight out to a destination of your choice.
