A group of young actors from the municipal troupe Astitva developed the play “Kendonians,” which has been chosen for the international theatre festival “Bharat Rang Mahotsav,” which is run by the National School of Drama. 
Out of 960 submissions, 77 plays from across the nation were chosen. Only two plays from Karnataka have been chosen. The plays will all be performed in 10 different cities across India. On February 20, “Kendonians” will be performed at Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
Astitva is a community of young men and women who have a great enthusiasm for theatre, according to Fr Praveen Martis, principal of St. Aloysius College, who spoke to reporters on Thursday. They’ve been collaborating since 2018. The group has participated in 10 national, 12 multilingual, and 1 international theatre festival, all of which were held in Dubai.
Seven Astitva members have been honoured for their significant “behind the scene” efforts in Tulu, Kannada, and Konkani theatre. With the intention of enabling students who are interested in art and theatre, the organisation now sponsors the education of one student each year.
The National School of Drama hosts an international theatre festival each year, he noted, mentioning the piece “Kendonians” and its selection for the Bharat Rang Mahotsav. One of the biggest festivals in the world is thought to be this one. This festival’s 22nd iteration will run from February 14 to February 26 in a number of locations across the nation. Fr. Martis stated that both team Astitva members and Ranga Adhyayana Kendra students from St. Aloysius College in Mangaluru would perform in this play.
Regarding the play
The play’s plot was penned by MP Rajesh, and it was directed by Arun Lal, a well-known actor, director, and theatre instructor from Kerala. He has won a lot of prestigious awards for his work as a director and choreographer. He has directed two plays, the second of which is being performed at Bharat Rang Mahotsav. It is a bilingual drama in Tulu and Kannada. A satire on current economic problems, unemployment, and globalisation is called “Kendonians.”
This revolutionary story illustrates the suffering of those who are enslaved in a world of brands, materialism, and hypocrisy. In cooperation with the Kannada department and Ranga Adhyayana Kendra, St Aloysius College, this play will be performed on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the LCRI Auditorium.
