On Wednesday, February 22, St Agnes College hosted the closing ceremony of the BE – Responsible e-waste collection drive, which was organised by the departments of Botany and Computer Science in partnership with Lions District 317D.
The e-waste collecting campaign took place between February 15 and February 22. St Agnes College students sponsored an awareness campaign to collect e-waste including laptops, washing machines, wires, CDs, printers, CPUs, computers, and cassettes.
Zone chairperson dist 317 D Ln Lancy Carlo stated, “We are pleased that through our partnership with St Agnes institution, we have been able to collect a substantial amount of E-waste. It will be recycled scientifically, as we have authorised facilities in India. Recycling of electronic waste will help reduce production costs.”
Dr. M. Venissa A.C., principal of St. Agnes College, stated, “Electronic devices are an intrinsic part of our existence.” As the supply of electronic devices increases, so does the demand, and there is a difficulty with controlling these wastes. E-waste causes environmental pollution, which impacts all of us in one way or another. We must use and dispose of e-gadgets with vigilance and awareness, as well as responsibility.
Dr. Lydia AC, joint secretary of St. Agnes institutions, and Ln. Sanjeith Shetty, district governor, were also present.
