A college in the city organised a ‘bE-Responsible’ e-waste collection drive to raise awareness about the dangers of E-waste and how to dispose of or recycle it in a manner that does not affect the environment.
The week-long effort recovered nearly two tonnes of electronic garbage. St Agnes College, Mangaluru’s departments of botany and computer science, in partnership with Lions District 317D, organised the campaign. The garbage was gathered from Saint Agnes College students, from its sister institutions, and also from the general public. The gathered garbage will be carefully recycled.
Froidy Fernandes, director of the department and assistant professor of botany, stated that they had asked the Lions Club, which had organised a month-long e-waste collection campaign, to extend it for an additional week at Saint Agnes College. Fernandes stated that e-waste was gathered from all sister concern institutions of St. Agnes, including kindergarten, primary, higher-primary, secondary, PUC, undergraduate, and graduate institutions. The collection place was at the degree college premises.
