Mangaluru-based Deekshith and Dheeraj, two young entrepreneurs, have come up with an innovative idea to combat environmental waste caused by single-use plastic cups and straws. Their invention includes cups, spoons, and straws made from rice powder, ragi, water, maida, and sugar, which can be used and then consumed. The product, called “Yenchi Crunchy,” includes a 100ml cup, ice cream bowls in four flavors, and spoons in five flavors, with diameters measuring 6.5mm, 8mm, and 10mm.
The product has received a positive response and could be used in various establishments like hotels and hospitals to avoid the use of plastic cups and straws. The duo has also set up a manufacturing unit in Angamali, Kerala, and plans to expand to Mangaluru.
