Mangaluru’s Kavoor Kere Gets a Stunning Makeover: Rejuvenation Project Completed at Rs 8 Crore

The Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has completed the rejuvenation of the Kavoor Kere in Mangaluru, with an expected formal inauguration next week. The project cost Rs 8 crore and began in 2020 but faced setbacks due to the pandemic and encroachments. The lake, spread across 8.3 acres, will act as a significant source for recharging groundwater.

The project includes a continuous walking and jogging track, an upgraded sluice gate, a seating and recreational area, and a chain-link fence for safety. Additionally, a silt trap and a diversion canal have been created to prevent waste accumulation, and a four-wheeler and two-wheeler parking area has been developed. The lake is attracting migratory birds and has become a popular destination for bird watchers. Efforts are underway to improve the water quality to desirable levels. NITK Surathkal and the AJ Institute of Technology are monitoring the lake’s development. The rejuvenation project aims to improve the socio-cultural value of the surrounding area and redevelop it as a recreational area.
