Water Rationing Possible By End of April in Mangaluru as Dam Levels Decrease

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) may have to introduce water rationing in 60 wards by the end of April if there is no rainfall in the catchment areas. The Thumbe dam, which supplies water to Mangaluru city, Ullal, Mulki, and other villages, had a water level of 5.1 meters on Monday, below its maximum capacity of 6 meters. The MCC will need to implement water rationing if the water level drops to 4 meters.

However, if there is sufficient rain, this can be avoided. Meanwhile, the Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat has formed teams to ensure an uninterrupted water supply to parched areas of villages. The teams are taking up borewell deepening and flushing works in areas where groundwater levels have depleted.
