Mangaluru Junction train station, which has been lacking basic infrastructure like proper connectivity and a bus station, is set to undergo an upgrade under the Amrit Bharat scheme of the Union railway ministry. The proposed blueprint for the upgrade has been prepared, and the tender process is underway, according to P Deva Danam, PRO of Palakkad divisional railway authority.
The upgrade will be part of a continuous long-term development plan for all railway stations selected under the Amrit Bharat scheme. The plan includes a phased approach for upgrading various facilities like the entrance of the railway station, waiting areas, toilets, lifts, escalators, cleanliness, free wifi, kiosks to market local products, space for business meetings, and landscaping. In addition, the upgrade will also focus on the renovation of existing buildings, approachability from both ends of the city, multimodal integration, wheelchair accessibility, environment-friendly measures, upper-story plazas, and other requirements as per necessity.
