In an effort to facilitate the voting process for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwD), the Election Commission has introduced a new initiative in the Dakshina Kannada district. A total of 60,934 eligible voters, including 46,927 aged above 80 years and 14,007 PwD voters, will be given Form 12D at their doorstep between May 1 and 5. Once signed, a team of officials, including a videographer and a policeman, will visit their houses to provide them with the opportunity to cast their vote before May 10.
The process will be conducted in the presence of booth-level agents of political parties while maintaining secrecy of voting. Of the eligible voters aged above 80 years, 38,294 are between 80 and 90 years, 8,102 are above 90 years, and 531 are over 100 years old. Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar MR hailed the initiative for its convenience to senior citizens and PwD voters.
