A few multiplexes in the city including screens of Cinepolis at City Centre Mall and Big Cinemas at Bharat mall, Bejai are set to open their doors for business on Thursday, October 15, 2020. These theatres had shut down suddenly in March due to the pandemic and it is set to reopen after the hiatus. Bharat Cinema at Manipal is also set to open on the same day. While PVR Cinemas at Forum Fiza Mall will take a few days to reopen, the announcement about restarting screening in Inox, Manipal has not been made yet.
In order that safety and hygiene is taken care of when one visits the theatre amidst the pandemic, the multiplexes will take necessary measures and make arrangements for the same. Seats in the cinema halls have been rearranged so as to ensure social distancing. One can book tickets online instead of crowding outside at the ticket stand like in times before the pandemic.
Other city theatres like Jyothi, Ramakanthi, Roopavani, Suchitra, Prabhath, Nataraj theatre Surathkal, Amarashree at Moodbidri and many others have also made arrangements to reopen business but announcements about the specific dates are not fixed yet.
Unfortunately for single screen owners, COVID- 19 pandemic has taken a toll on them financially like many other businesses. They remain in loss as reopening with maintenance and brand new renovations all while following the COVID-19 protocol may prove to be cumbersome. In fact, their payment for electricity, salary and their necessary resources can lead them to face even high expenses. and reshutting business after making these arrangements due to a further surge in cases can be fatal. Thus, many of their decisions are still doubtful.
