Dakshina Kannada will also be able to set the number 112 as an emergency helpline number soon. This number will become operational as per the ‘One India, one emergency helpline’ policy of the government.
When one calls 112, they are connected to the district coordination centre whose authorities will provide necessary aid. One can avail services of the departments of police, fire, health as well as other emergency provisions.
One can also access these services using the website link www.ka.ners.in, send a mail to [email protected] or even download the 112 India application on their mobile phones. Immediate response will be received by citizens who make a call as this is a 24 hour facility that is open on all seven days of the week.
Digital technology will help locate the caller and their further details. In this way, vehicles or services can immediately be deployed to necessary spots. This can be an immediate aid to emergencies that senior citizens, women, children and others face.
One can either dial 112 or long press 5 or 9 to activate the emergency number on feature phones. Smartphones, on the other hand, can press the power key thrice to activate the call. They can also dial 112 to access the service.
