Detailed Project Report For The Construction Of Mangalore – Bangalore Shiradi Tunnel Submitted

Union Transport and Highways Minister, has assured that a Detailed Project Report for the construction of a 23.6 km tunnel that is supposed to reduce the time required to travel between Mangalore and Bangalore has been turned in. The tunnel project has been named the Shiradi Tunnel Project for official purposes on Saturday. The foundation for twin one-way bridges over river Phalguni and also launched 32 other national highway projects for the state.

It was explained that as of now the land acquisition phase was going on after which tenders will come into the picture and contracts will be awarded. The entire project is said to amount to a massive 10,000 crores and will help greatly in the development of the state of Karnataka. Once all the land that is required for the project has been gathered, the project will officially commence work. 

The foundation was also laid – albeit virtually – for the development of the Mangalore – Madikeri national highway that is worth around Rs 58.8 crore. With regard to the aforementioned highway, work like retaining walls for the highway stretch, drainage, and other safety measures need to be installed and completed with extreme care paid to the Ghat road section. 

In order to protect the national highway at the Shiradi ghat, launched a project of constructing retaining walls that are 26 km long, permanent, and cost an estimated amount of Rs. 36.5 crores. Permanent retaining walls will also be installed at the Charmadi ghat section and will cost approximately Rs 19.4 crore. Furthermore, a six-lane bridge has been proposed to be built at Kulur and will cost an estimate of Rs. 69 crore.
