Vehicle owners would have to pay Rs 5,000 for renewal of registration of automobiles older than 15 years starting in April next year, which is eight times more than they currently pay.The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification about the renewal of outdated car registration certificates, and this new rule is part of the government’s overall goal to implement the National Automobile Scrappage Policy.According to the notice, the cost of renewing a certificate of fitness for a bus or truck that is more than 15 years old will be roughly eight times greater than what commercial vehicle owners already pay.
While the cost of renewing a 15-year-old car’s registration would be Rs 5,000, up from the existing rate of Rs 600, the cost of renewing an old bike’s registration would be Rs 1,000, up from the present fee of Rs 300.A fitness renewal certificate for a bus or truck older than 15 years would cost Rs 12,500, up from Rs 1,500 now, while a medium goods or passenger motor vehicle would cost Rs 10,000.Imported bikes and vehicles will cost Rs 10,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively, to renew their registrations.These rules will be known as the Central Motor Vehicles (23rd Amendment) Rules, 2021, and will take effect on April 1, 2022, according to the notification.
According to the statement, an additional fee of Rs 50 would be charged for each day the certificate of fitness is delayed after it expires.It further stated that if the certificate of registration is a smart card-type issue, an extra price of Rs 200 will be charged.According to the notification, if you miss the deadline for renewing your certificate of registration, you will be charged an additional price of Rs 300 for each month you wait for private vehicles and Rs 500 for each month you wait for commercial vehicles.
