Mangalore University is arranging to set up broad guidelines and will soon formulate a committee that will announce a common policy for all constituent colleges to come up with their own dress code. As we can see incessant controversies over the wearing of headscarf and shawls on a college campus.
The committee will be asked to make suggestions on how the issue could be addressed at the respective college level. Academic activities and not political or religious interference should take attention at campuses, said Vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithaya on Friday.
“The suggestions made by the committee will be tabled before the academic council and the syndicate. Once both agencies give approval, the guidelines will be shared with constituent colleges,” said the vice-chancellor, “ The aim of the exercise is to not follow up the controversies in future.”
Hereafter university will not get involved in taking decisions regarding color or style or design of the uniform, everything is left to the individual college management. The colleges should achieve a code by applying the varsity’s broad guidelines and the code must not lead to unnecessary controversies. VC made these things clear.
