After a three-year break, the Mularpatna bridge, which connects Arala in Bantwal taluk and Muttur in Mangalore taluk, has been reconstructed and is now operational. The bridge across the River Phalguni cost Rs 13.9 crore to construct. On November 12, the bridge was officially opened to the public.
The bridge was an important link between the taluks of Bantwal and Mangaluru. It fell three years ago. Students in Muttur government elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools, as well as students at PU college, who were completely reliant on this bridge, had a difficult time. The locals were also affected. To cross the river, they relied on the hanging bridge. Meanwhile, throughout the summer months, local youngsters, under the banner of the GHM organization, heaped mud over the river to create a temporary mud road, allowing people to cross the river by walking on this embankment.
As there was no bridge, government buses only ran between B.C. Road and Mularpatna, as well as between Mangaluru and Muttur. Vehicles traveling to Kuppepadavu, Ganjimath, Sornadu, Siddakatte, Loretto, and other destinations were forced to take a detour through Kuriyala, Sanoorpadavu, and Moodbidri roads. People were losing patience as the bridge remained unfinished after nearly three years, even though the MP had stated that the union minister for roads would be inaugurating the bridge.
