The Central Board of Secondary Education has released a new assessment scheme for the academic year 2021-2022. Exams will be held twice a year along with continuous assessment of the student.
The decision was made amidst the spread of COVID-19 infection wherein CBSE had to cancel the examinations. The new scheme for the next academic year as the final results of the existing batch will be declared based on the 10th, 11th and 12th internal scores. The order issued on Monday states that this will enable a variety of options to decide the final score at the end of the year. The notification also added that the syllabus of the board examinations will be rationalized like the previous year. CBSE had reduced the syllabus by 30% in the previous academic year.
The notification has made it clear that the entire syllabus would be divided into two terms. 50% of the portion would be covered in the first half and the rest will be held in the second semester. Both the semesters will have an examination at its end.
It has been decided to hold the first semester examination in November- December. A window period of 4-8 weeks will be provided for the schools situated in different parts of the country. External superintendent would be allotted in schools and the paper would contain only multiple choice questions.
Guidelines will be issued for internal assessment, practicals and projects to ensure fair results. The evidence for all the internal activities must be digitally maintained to create an evidence to the fair assessment. The records along with marks need to be uploaded onto CBSEs IT platform. Different provisions have been made for assessment in view of the existing pandemic situation.
The marks of the theory examinations will be divided equally along with the internal assessment. It has also been decided that if the pandemic situation does not allow students to have offline examinations, the board will conduct 1st term examinations online. However the marks obtained for online examination would carry reduced weightage in finals.
In case the second internals cannot be held, then the first term results would get maximum weightage along with internal marks which will decide the final results.
If the schools remain closed during both the semester, then the maximum weightage would be awarded to the internal assessments, projects and practicals.
The notification ensured that data analysis of students will be undertaken to ensure the integrity of internal assessment and home based examination.
