Clearance Drive To Ban The Use Of Single-Use Plastic Products By MCC

  To enforce a ban on the use of single-use plastic products, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will conduct a clearance drive of unauthorised fast food vendors from May 7 and also seize such goods on the basis of complaints received from multiple sources.

The MCC commissioner has said in a statement, that as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Wildlife on 11-03-2016 and the National Green Tribunal order, the civic body issued a ban on single-use plastic products. However, it has been brought to the notice of the MCC that the orders are being violated by commercial vendors.

The MCC stated that health inspectors have been directed to seize plastic goods and issue fines against similar offences, adding that in case of violations, vendors will be fined ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 along with being booked under Section 19 of the 1986 Environmental (Conservation) Act.

Trading licences of vendors will stand cancelled in case of violations. The civic body has informed vendors to vacate immediate in case of violations or face due consequences.
