The Chief Minister will probably announce a final unlocking decision in the evening. However, in 8 districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan, the Deputy Commissioners and District Ministers in charge have been requested to take severe steps with a view to cutting the positive rates in their respective districts within one week.
The CEO, who held a video-conference discussion with the Deputy Commissioners and district ministers in charge of the eight districts in Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, Shimoga, and Tumkur, will work at a positive rate of less than 5% within a week, as is the case with the other districts in Karnataka.
Official sources indicate that Deputy Commissioners and District In-Charge Ministers from eight districts requested the Minister Chief for an additional week to retain the existing lock-down limits in order to provide them time to act and rigorously comply with their lock-down limitations. The CM stated that after contacting ministries and high officials in the evening, he would make a decision.
Official sources indicated that there was a proposal that the lockdown restrictions in Karnataka should be announced, with the exception of the 8 high-postal areas or that the current 4-hr window should be extended between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 6 hours from 6 am to 12 noon to allow people to move around for essential buying besides park opening and to allow auto rickshaws to be operated.
However, the administration is concerned about whether interdistrict travel and the probable effects of a shift of this kind will be allowed. In talks, with high optimism rates and relaxation in other talks that are regarded as unworkable because the possibilities of mobility for people and vehicles can not be curtailed, there are also ideas to implement stringent lockdown limits, the sources said.
