Dakshina Kannada And Udupi Lashed With Heavy Rains And Winds

The coastal districts have been receiving extreme rains since Friday May 14 due to the low pressure area in the Arabian Sea having already transformed into cyclone. In many parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, the rains are continuing on May 15 as well. The district is facing high winds as well. Waves have turned violent amidst the heavy rains.

Warnings have been given to the fishermen not to venture into the sea because of high tidal waves. An NDRF team has come up as a precaution to the district. Indian Meteorological Department said that coastal Karnataka will receive good rains on Sunday and Monday as well. The effect of cyclone Tauktae has resulted in heavy and continuous rains in Udupi district. 

The sea has turned violent at Maple, Padukere, Maravanathe and Mattu. Sea erosion has been expected at some places. Alert has been given regarding heavy downpour and high velocity winds.  Udupi and Dakshina Kannada will remain in the red zone for the next three days. Fishermen are warned not to venture into the seas as the tides are violent. Emergency helpline 1077 is accessible to the people.

Red alert due to cyclone Tauktae has been announced in Mangalore till May 16. The Meteorological department stated that the city might experience strong wind which may exceed 204.5 mm.
