DK: Devotees to get vaccination doses in the Temple

Vaccination centers put up within temple grounds in the Dakshina Kannada district have proven a great hit, with a large number of devotees lining up to get their shots. The district government had instructed temple committees to work with taluk health authorities and set up vaccination stations on their grounds to increase vaccine coverage. The instruction was given with the heavy footfall at temples during Dasara in mind.

Dakshina Kannada, a health expert and reproductive child health (RCH) official who is also in charge of the immunization program, The initiative’s success has exceeded all expectations. At the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha, Mangaladevi, Kateel Durgaparameshwari, and Kukke Subrahmanya temples, booths have been set up. Each temple administers around 100 dosages each day on average. This facility is used by many devotees from beyond the district.

 

Many individuals go to the counters for the second dosage of the vaccination, only to realize they haven’t finished the 84 days. The counters are open between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. He mentioned that the temple has a team of volunteers and healthcare personnel that go around to people’s homes and make sure the elderly and bedridden get the vaccination. The temple, he stated, has given this group a car. Since October 7, almost 371 individuals have received the injection, as per a staff nurse from Jeppu PHC who dispenses dosages at Mangaladevi temple. She stated that the majority of people are returning for their second dose.

 

 On Tuesday, the attendance was excellent between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., but dismal in the evening owing to heavy rain. People are being urged to get themselves stabbed through public announcements. The authorities had also asked temple managers to check for immunization certificates among pilgrims.
