DK to increase number of Covid-19 tests

The health department has increased the number of testing with cases of Covid-19 being recorded below 50 cases in Dakshina Kannada. An average of 3500 tests per day was conducted in the district and now, more than 5000 tests are being conducted. Since nursing colleges and other institutes in the district are reopening, Dakshina Kannada has seen an increase in testing. In three nursing hostels, nearly 100 students had tested positive in the past few weeks.

In addition to regular tests being conducted in symptomatic patients of the novel corona virus, primary contacts of those infected are also being tested. Teachers, non teaching staff and other students of various institutes were also tested.

The government has made it mandatory for staff, students and non teaching staff to undergo testing for Covid-19. So all institutions in the district are following government guidelines. 

Dakshina Kannada being one with many institutions where students from various states and areas flock together form a greater threat. In the past week, the number of tests have increased and in the past one week, it has increased to 40,000 tests. Doctors have however opined that a drastic fall in cases of Covid-19 cases.
