Under the Mangaluru Smart City Mission, coastal Karnataka will get its first promenade if all goes as planned. On the waterfront along the Nethravati riverbed, Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has developed a detailed project report (DPR) for the development of a promenade, a paved public walk with various tourism attractions. As per MSCL’s general manager, a special purpose vehicle has been planned to take on the proposed 2.1-kilometer promenade project, which is expected to cost Rs 19 crore.

The Mangaluru Smart City Mission’s Area Based Development (ABD) includes a 5.1-kilometer coastline commencing at the Nethravati road bridge. On a trial basis, the proposed promenade will be built between the bridge and Bolar. The proposal proposes a biodiversity park with walkways and bridges that would allow visitors to wander through the area. The entire biodiversity park is open to the public, and modest convention centers have been planned. He stated the DPR had been created and a tender procedure would begin in a week.
