This year, the popular traditional Janapada sport, Kambala of Tulunadu, will make history by allowing women to compete for the first time. Five girls have reportedly expressed interest in participating in the sport, and the Kambala academy will determine the sort of buffaloes as well as the rules for them. Kambala Academy president, Gunapala Kadamba, delivered this information at the free training camp that was hosted by the Kambala Academy at Moodbidri.
Five families who own buffaloes that compete in the Kambala have already stated that they will encourage their daughters to participate in the sport. They will be trained by the academy and given the opportunity to compete in this year’s Kambala. Women, according to Gunapala Kadamba, are just as skilled as males in caring for the buffaloes used in the Kambala sport. Women will be given the opportunity to participate in Kambala because it is a traditional sport.
Last year, a young lady from Kundapur named Chaithra Parameshwar Bhat went to the Kambala field and made history. She attended the Miyar Kambala. This year, five young ladies will be the centre of attention. In the middle of this, the school selects 33 young men between the ages of 18 and 20 for a 15-day training programme. They were chosen from a pool of 219 applicants. All of them have already begun training as of September 19th. On October 10th, the training will come to a close. Gunapal provided this information to us.
