Green hydrogen cluster to come up in Mangaluru

This town hosted its Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2022 from November 2 to November 4. This demonstrates that Karnataka is leading the country in the manufacturing of environmentally friendly hydrogen.

According to E. V. Ramana Reddy, assistant chief secretary for the commercial and industrial department, Mangaluru would be the site of India’s first green hydrogen cluster.

ACME Solar, ABC Cleantech, ReNew Power, Avaada Energy, JSW Green Hydrogen, Petronas Hydrogen, and O2 Power are among the companies that have expressed an interest in investing in Karnataka to manufacture green hydrogen.

The green hydrogen project will receive an investment of roughly Rs. 1.5 lakh crore. The investors have requested land close to the port in Mangaluru. Green hydrogen, according to Reddy, may be transformed into green ammonia and exported.

Reddy continued, “Around 100 to 300 acres of land are needed for the installation of green hydrogen units.” The availability of solar and wind energy is crucial. Green power would be transported to Mangaluru’s hydrogen reactors via transmission lines operated by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited or the Power Grid Corporation of India.

“Schemes will be introduced in stages.” At the very least, this will take five to six years. Prime Minister Modi launched the National Hydrogen Mission with the goal of establishing India as a production hub. He stated that India will export hydrogen and fuel before 2047.

“Karnataka is prepared to significantly contribute to the global supply chain. The world’s supply chain was hampered by COVID. Karnataka is the ideal place to go, given the current political and geological conditions.

“In this edition of GIM, the subject “Build for the World” highlights Karnataka’s role in the global supply chain system.”

“Karnataka already has a great environment for electronics, system design, and manufacturing” (ESDM). The state is India’s largest chip designer facility, with over 85 Fortune 500 chip design companies like Intel, Qualcom, NVIDIA, Applied Materials, AMD, and others. “We have made luring investments in the semi-conductor and other ESDM production sectors our top goal,” he stated.

Green hydrogen can be used in an emergency just as easily as regular hydrogen when it is created using renewable energy or a method. The same can be delivered by natural gas pipes or in the form of gas.
