In this regard, the Covid technical committee had given new instructions to the health department last week. Already samples of 4677 children have been collected.

SERO survey is being held for children in the age group of 6 to 14 years. Only those who were infected by Covid after taking the first dose are considered for the survey. During the third wave, Covid was noticed more in people who had taken the vaccination but the symptoms were mild.

It is being said that this survey will help in assessing the dosage of vaccination that needs to be administered in children and also precautionary measures to be taken in case Covid is seen in children.

The samples have been collected from 38 places including 155 in Davanagere, 240 in Mysuru, 152 in Dakshina Kannada, 206 in Raichur, 270 in Ballari, 220 in Vijayapura, 240 in Kalaburagi and 265 in Belagavi.

Dr Kishore Kumar, DK health officer said, “Pediatric SERO surveys are done during every Covid wave. This time around, a special survey is being held for children. In the last SERO survey, there were reports that the wave will infect more elderly people. So we could take necessary precautions.”
