Here’s What You Can Do when Cab Drivers Cancels Your Rides

Due to the lack of efficient public transportation in several states across India, people are compelled to utilize cab aggregators such as Ola, Uber, Meru, and others. They are frequently at the mercy of cab drivers, who determine whether or not to transport a customer from point A to point B. These considerations are made based on the passenger’s chosen distance and manner of payment.

If a cab driver refuses to complete the trip or cancels on you, you have a few options:

  1. Make a note of the cab number whenever you book a ride through a cab aggregator. Take a screenshot using your phone if possible.
  2. If the cab driver calls you once you’ve booked a ride and asks for your destination, give them that information.
  3. If the cab driver cancels the ride or refuses to let you ride after learning of the end destination, tweet or WhatsApp the date, time, and location to your city’s traffic police. You should also capture a screenshot of the canceled ride to show the traffic cops
  4. Under section 178 (3) (a) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, canceling a ride results in a penalty of Rs 500 for state-run buses and Rs 200 for private cabs, which is levied directly on the vehicle by the state police.

The problem is multi-faceted, and all of them must be addressed. If a taxi driver makes approximately 20 trips in a day, the money does not get to him right away, which puts him in a tough situation. As a result, when a customer specifies that the payment method is digital, the cab driver cancels the journey to prevent the payment delay.

A regulation requiring aggregators to pay cab drivers within a certain time frame would go a long way toward addressing the issue of ride cancellations, as per anti-corruption. He further emphasizes that when on duty, the holder of a commercial vehicle license is prohibited from refusing a passenger a trip for any reason.
