The state government, which had been concerned about its intentions to hire over 10,000 guest lecturers this year, has already received over 60,000 applications. This is surprising, especially given the government’s fear of backlash and the fact that thousands of existing guest lecturers are already on indefinite leave.
Applications were welcomed for 10,636 positions by the Higher Education Department, and online counseling for the appointments was set to begin today for four days. 7,225 guest lecturers with a full workload (15 hours/week) and 3,411 with a partial workload will be assigned to 47 subjects. Commerce garnered the most applications, which were followed by Kannada, Computer Science, and English.
