Born & brought up in Oman, Dr Disha Dinakar chose to pursue medicine in Mangalore as she was originally from Vittal, near Mangalore. Being the only child and as a result a very pampered one, it was challenging to leave Oman and start afresh in India. However, her determination to move out of her parent’s nest and comfort zone brought her to Mangalore. Little did she know that she was yet to taste life in all its glory.
When talking to MMJ she recalled how life in India was much harder than she had thought it would be. Life away from her parents meant that she lives in a hostel that was entirely alien to her. During schooling, she participated actively in almost every cultural activity and also in the sport of swimming. However, her studies began taking up all the time that she had and therefore that resulted in her giving up the aforementioned activities and focusing her attention completely on her studies.
Quite unexpectedly, a few years ago, an opportunity came her way and she grabbed it leading to her winning Miss Mangalore which made her the first Miss Mangalore of WTN (World Tuluva Network). Then there was no turning back for Dr Dinakar. She went on to feature in many print advertisements in and around Kerala and Karnataka after which she did a few TV commercials. Dr Dinakar has also acted in three South Indian movies. Dinakar told MMJ that this was just a passion of hers but definitely not a career option. Besides having acted in various films and commercials, she also achieved the incredible feat of completing her studies. Currently, she is practising full time as a nationally approved doctor for seafarers & she is also pursuing a fellowship in aesthetic medicine from university of Greifswald Germany
Her achievements don’t stop here. Along with her mother, she has established Digvijaya Herbals Pvt Ltd in 2019. Within a short span of time, she has been successful in shipping beauty, health, and wellness products to at least forty-one countries apart from operating in the domestic market. Dr Dinakar talked of how her father being an entrepreneur himself encouraged her to start something of her own which led to the birth of Digvijaya Herbals Pvt Ltd. New branches of the company have been opened in Bangalore, Singapore & Sri Lanka.
Towards the end of our exchange, Dr Dinakar talked of how important it is to live life to the fullest and how she believes in always doing what one loves because when one’s passion and determination converge, you become unstoppable. As in any story, she also had people in her life who tried to pull her down but she proudly told us she has overcome it all. She is indeed limitless.
