Netravati River Freed From 14 Tonnes Of Garbage

The planning for this cleanup drive took place thoroughly in the view to pick up the waste strewn down, that meets the river. Using ropes and hooks the wastes were hauled up. To store the pulled up, collected waste the old fishing net -modified bags were used. Sanitary disposables, diapers, meat, household mixed waste, construction waste, thermocol, broken crockery, dead animals and electronic items made up the majority of waste collected. Antony Waste Handling Cell vehicles aided in the waste pick up and transferred it to the dumpyard.

The CEO of APD Foundation shared his concerns telling that he had appealed to the civic authorities to install fencing in order to avoid people dumping waste into the river. Ultimately this habit of throwing wastes into rivers will hamper the ecology and pollute Netravati, the lifeline of the coast.

Only 10% of actual garbage was collected during the first campaign and the organisations-Hasiru Dala , APDF  have decided to continue with this clean drive every Sunday to reduce the waste density as much as possible. The estimate of 200 tonnes of wastes are being littered currently on the riverside and it is our responsibility to make a difference, to keep clean.
