Despite receiving the go-ahead from the Union Government on February 28, 2022, work has not yet begun on the construction of an overpass at Nanthoor Junction on NH 66. The plan for the overpass is ready, but a dispute over land ownership is currently in court. The tender process has been completed, and contractors have been given a set period to pay their EMD.
In addition, another overpass is set to be constructed near KPT Junction at a cost of Rs 22 crore, with the work order already passed. The process of obtaining a license to cut trees is currently underway.
However, chaos persists regarding the malfunctioning signal lights. While NHAI assures that work will begin soon, police remain uncertain about the functioning of the signal system. This confusion has led to tragic consequences, with two individuals losing their lives in a recent accident at Nanthoor Junction. Over the past year, numerous accidents have occurred at the junction, prompting public outrage over the lack of traffic control and truck driver negligence.
