Revised Covid protocols for travelers from Kerala

For those who arrive from Kerala, the Karnataka government has altered its Covid-19 protocol, exempting a group of people from the necessary seven-day institutional quarantine. In light of the worrying spike in Covid cases, it had previously been mentioned that all visitors from Kerala would be subjected to a seven-day institutional quarantine. Constitutional functionaries, healthcare professionals, and their spouses were exempt from institutional quarantine under the new policy.

The orders exempted children under the age of two, people in dire emergencies such as a death in the family or medical treatment, short-term travelers within three days, students arriving in Karnataka for examinations with one parent each and returning within three days, and passengers in transit from and to Kerala via any mode of transport.

As per the government decree, all students and staff, regardless of their Covid-19 immunization status, must bring a negative RT-PCR certificate that is not older than 72 hours. It was clarified that such certificates are only valid for one week. Meanwhile, Kerala’s state health minister described the situation as “terrifying.” They are concerned about the current scenario in Kerala. The number of Covid patients does not appear to be decreasing. On Thursday, the state health minister informed reporters in Bengaluru that more than 30,000 people had tested positive for Covid-19 the day before.

Students taking the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) have expressed concern about how a week of institutional quarantine may affect them. As a result, with the student’s academic future in mind, the government has directed the centers and institutions to set up institutional quarantine. Employers would have to prepare arrangements for institutional quarantine of their employees, as per the state health minister. Others who come here will be quarantined at home, he explained. Even if they have a negative RT-PCR report or have taken the Covid-19 vaccination, the Karnataka government had previously made it essential for anyone traveling from Kerala to be quarantined for a week.
