St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, is ranked 95th among Indian colleges in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2021. This is a unique and remarkable honour for the College, as it was one of over 6,000 colleges across the country that took part in the programme and were thoroughly examined on many factors governing higher education in India. On Thursday, September 9th, 2021, the Union Ministry of Education announced the results of the rankings. This achievement is all the more noteworthy because the college was named one of the best colleges in the state of Karnataka, ranking among the top three colleges in the state.
The Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis, SJ, the institution’s principal, has expressed his gratitude to the faculty and students for their dedication to the institution’s ideals and vision for higher education at the institutional, regional, state, national, and global levels, promoting an educational paradigm that meets global standards by exposing students to global curricula and acquiring global skills. He also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders for always supporting the College in its efforts to promote a unique model of higher education.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was established to improve higher education quality and to encourage the best colleges to attain new heights by upgrading themselves to meet global higher education standards.
It’s worth noting that the College was recently awarded the UGC-STRIDE (Scheme for Transdisciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy): Component 1 grant, under which the College is working on 14 major research projects examining the Cultural Diversity of Coastal Karnataka. The College has been given a Rs. 2.93 crore research grant from the DBT-BUILDER Award for Interdisciplinary Research in Biosciences. Mangalore University has designated all of the College’s Postgraduate Studies & Research Departments as Research Centres. This is a rare achievement for a college’s research and innovation credentials.
