The centre has directed the state to ensure COVID norms during the festive season

In view of the upcoming festive season, the centre has urged the states to ensure that the covid protocols are being followed. The gatherings at fairs, festivals, and religious functions might lead to a fresh surge of infections in the country.

The centre is focusing on a five-fold strategy: test, track, treat, vaccinate, and avoid the possibility of a surge in the infection. It has also been instructed to keep a check on the positivity rate and the availability of ICU beds. The home secretary of the government of India mentioned in his letter that the Covid-19 cases and overall active cases are declining, but there are still localised cases in some states and the disease continues to be a public health challenge in the country.

The letter also added that state governments, Union territory, and administrations concerned with high positivity in their districts, should take proactive containment measures so as to effectively arrest the spike in cases and contain the spread of transmission. The experts said that Covid appropriate behaviour has been ebbing as all the sectors have reopened. They added that mass congregations are happening on a regular basis. Crowding and COVID spreading go hand in hand. Presently, there isn’t any increase in the number of cases, but precautions need to be ensured.

The Union ministry has sent such cautionary letters previously as well. It suggested the government focus on prompt and effective containment measures along with an acceleration in the pace and coverage of the Covid-19 vaccine.
