In view of the Covid-19 scenario, the Directorate General of Central Aviation (DGCA) has decided to prolong the ban on scheduled international commercial flights until October 31. This restriction would not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically permitted by the regulator, the DGCA stated in a notification released on Tuesday.
Scheduled foreign flights may be allowed on specified routes on a case-by-case basis, according to the aviation authority. To prevent and control the spread of Covid-19, the central government halted international flights on March 23 of last year. Flight restrictions were later removed as part of an air bubble agreement with a few countries. About 25 countries have signed air bubble agreements with India. Over recent years, the country has operated Vande Bharat flights to a number of countries.
