Tomato growers in Karnataka are facing significant challenges as the prices of their produce skyrocket. To add to their troubles, farmers are now forced to protect their ripe tomato crops due to repeated incidents of theft. Farming families, including women, are standing guard with wooden logs to deter miscreants who target the crops for quick profits.

The thefts have resulted in substantial losses for farmers, with one couple in Doddaballapura taluk’s Laxmi Devi Pura village losing tomatoes worth Rs 1.5 lakh in the past week alone. Farmers have resorted to patrolling their fields day and night to ensure the safety of their crops. The incidents have prompted complaints to local police stations, with reports of a stabbing incident during a tomato robbery in Raichur district. Additionally, thieves have also targeted ginger and cabbage crops in Chintamani town, causing further financial losses for farmers. Complaints have been lodged with the authorities regarding these incidents.
