Vehicles without FASTag to pay twice the toll charge from February 16th onwards

According to the Road and Transport Ministry, any vehicle passing through the NH toll booth without FASTag will have to pay twice the toll charge from February 16th onwards. It has also been decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highway will be declared as ‘FASTag lane of the fee plazas’, from 16th February.

FASTag is a government-initiated program which works as a prepaid instrument for vehicles on national highways. It uses Radio Frequency Identification technology, allowing users to make toll payments directly from savings or prepaid accounts. Currently, The National Highway Authority of India operates this technology through its subsidiary Indian Highway Management Company Limited.

Any vehicle entering the fee lane without FASTag will have to pay twice the toll charge. Further guidelines have been given that the deadline of the implementation of the FASTag will not be extended and that owners should take immediate measures to do so. This is considering the fact that the deadlines have been extended a few times already.

Originally, planned to start on 1st January, 2021, the deadline was extended to February 14th, 2021.
