Weekly Domestic Flights Will Set High This Summer At MIA

  After 2 years of the pandemic, The Mangalore International Airport is all set for a summer schedule. As per the tentative summer schedule filed by the airlines, weekly domestic flight movements will increase from 78 to 112.

  Adding up, the move by the Director-General of Civil Aviation to permit scheduled commercial international passenger services from March 27 will give a thrust to connecting domestic services as well, said an MIA spokesperson. 

  The MIA spokesperson said IndiGo, SpiceJet, AirIndia and GoFirst are operating from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. IndiGo has the lion’s share of weekly aircraft movements with 57 flights.SpiceJet has eight movements – four each to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Air India seven movements to Coimbatore and GoFirst six flights to Mumbai. 

  Cumulatively, the weekly aircraft movements will increase to 112 from the existing 78. According to the tentative summer schedule filed by the airlines, weekly movements of IndiGo will go up to 77, SpiceJet will go up to 14 – all to Bengaluru. Air India will remain at seven movements – all direct to Mumbai, rather than via Coimbatore, as the airline operates now. GoFirst’s flight movements will jump to 14 – all to Mumbai. 

  The airport is also adding more destinations this summer to the list. IndiGo has proposed a new route to Pune with five movements each week. This will facilitate onward connection to other destinations. SpiceJet will meet a long-standing expectation of the people of coastal Karnataka with a daily flight to New Delhi.
